After a relaxing two weeks of bumming around at home, I'm back working. Just casual work but it's great to be back in the lab. And great not working stupid hours. I'm back to working on cute mammals, rather than smelly fish (not that it makes a difference in the lab). And instead of trying to figuing out population structure, the project is trying to identify regions of the genome associated with specific traits.
I'm also job hunting, which hasn't been very successful. Anything remotely related to my area requires skills that I don't have. I did find a job in the US that sounded great, except the salary was little better than my scholarship. I don't need a big income but I do need to live comfortably. I really don't understand the states, you spend ~8 years slaving on a stupid PhD project so that you can be paid peanuts for you postdoc.
I am applying for a one year fellowship in the US. It would be a continuation of my PhD project, which I don't really want to do but I can't live as a full-time bum. That award wont be announced until January and I can't start until I have been officially awarded my PhD (whenever the hell that will be). A long wait but maybe I'll luck out and find a better job during that time.
Urg, future is hard. WIPs are much more fun.

I like WIP because it's fun to imagine what they will look like when they're all done. :)
